Dr. Billie Bensen Martin

The heart, soul and driving force of the Sacramento Cat Hospital is Dr. Billie Martin.  She graduated from the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1984.  Originally she was trained as an equine veterinarian.  Dr. Martin spent five years in small animal medicine before focusing on feline medicine.  In 1989, Dr. Martin purchased the Sacramento Cat Hospital and began a lifetime dedication to providing the best medical care to cats and the best service to our clients.  Dr. Martin is a progressive and inspiring doctor, always encouraging her staff to expand their knowledge base and experience.  She has a special interest in behavior medicine, dermatology and ophthalmology.  Outside of the Sacramento Cat Hospital, Dr. Martin enjoys spending her time with her family.  She has Lexie, a three-legged cat, who was rescued from a car engine and requires daily bandage changes.

Dr. Irene Fujishima Nakaoka, Diplomate, ABVP (Feline Practice)

Dr. Fujishima (or Dr. Irene as she is called) graduated from Yale University in 1994.  Originally a chemical engineer, Dr. Irene decided midway through graduate school that veterinary medicine and not engineering was her life calling.  She graduated from the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2001.  Dr Irene has  special interests in cardiology, dentistry, internal medicine and complex case management.  She has two three-legged animals at home, Kumo (the dog) and Bella (the cat).  Most recently we recognize Dr. Irene for mastering a rigorous and demanding application process and certification examination in order for her to obtain Diplomate status.  To qualify to sit for the extensive, two-day examination, she had to have 6 years of clinical veterinary practice.  In addition, two case reports, references, descriptions of practice procedures, and professional education records had to be submitted and pass review.  Dr. Irene is now our very own Board Certified Feline Specialist!
